Blocs for Mac 5.2 — Get Ready to Build Even Better Websites
As the year comes to an end, we have one last release of Blocs for Mac that we can’t wait to share with you.
Today we are very excited to introduce Blocs for Mac 5.2, this release brings a range of amazing new features to Blocs, as well as many fixes and improvements.
Horizontal Scroll Container ⬅️ ➡️
When it comes to web design, we tend to build our sites with vertical scrolling in mind, however, there are many great website examples out there, that use horizontal scrolling to great effect.
In Blocs for Mac 5.2, we are introducing a brand new container option that makes adding horizontal scrollable areas a breeze. With just a few clicks, you can now switch long lists of content into horizontally scrollable lists, saving vertical space and making your web page designs more organised and easier on the eye.
Kaden Site Template 🎆
Blocs 5 was the first version of Blocs to come with pre-made site templates. These templates are designed to take advantage of the Blocs Quick Start feature that allows designers to quickly and easily customise the site template in various ways before they add their own content.
In Blocs for Mac 5.2, we are introducing a stunning new e-commerce site template we call Kaden. This template has been carefully crafted to work perfectly with Quick Start and is a great choice for modern online store websites.
Share Preview over Airdrop 📡
For a while now, it’s been possible to access a website being previewed in Blocs on any devices on the same local network. However, previously the process was cumbersome and not very user friendly. It required copying a custom url and typing it into the web browser on your other devices.
That all changes today!
With the release of Blocs for Mac 5.2, you can now quickly and easily share the preview of the website that you are working on in Blocs over Air Drop, to any other Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and Macs. Perfect for testing responsive design features on actual devices or sharing progress on the website you’re building with other colleagues in your office.
Share Screenshots over Email and Messages ✉️
Blocs has a vibrant user community of freelance web designers who use Blocs everyday to build websites for their clients. Keeping these clients updated with progress can be a time consuming process, involving capturing screenshots and emailing them to clients for feedback.
In Blocs for Mac 5.2, we have added a collection of new share features that make the process of sharing screenshots of the website you’re working on super streamlined.
With a click, Blocs will now capture a screenshot of the current web page and create a new email or text message with the screenshot attached, ready to send.
Lock Classes 🔓
We love adding new features to Blocs that help to keep your websites organised. In Blocs for Mac 5.2, we have added the ability to lock classes which helps to prevent unintentional changes to classes and also stops classes used in your site dynamically from being listed as unused.
We think the ability to lock classes is a great new addition for both Blocs users and 3rd party developers who create Site Templates and Custom Brics.
Productivity⚡️
It’s not always the show stopping features that make the biggest impact, sometimes it’s the little productivity features that can make a world of difference to your day to day work!
In Blocs for Mac 5.2 we have added a range of smaller new features we think will make creating your next web site with Blocs even faster, such as the ability to add interactions to individual carousel images or auto applying matching retina (2x) resolution images when setting the (1x) version for an image.
We also added six brand new horizontal scroll Blocs, in-app preview support for all WordPress feature image sizes and updated the Follow Bric to use the new X (previously Twitter) icon.
As well as all of that, we also fixed a bunch of bugs and made various UX improvements across the app.
